Rachel Attfield will be hosting Knotted Structures as part of the ReRooted Residency Programme in Trowbridge Gardens.

This workshop is an invitation to take part in the collective act of making, using a few simple knots to create large-scale works made by participants. Simple craft techniques will be shared and used as the basis for participants to contribute to a growing woven structure by playing with colour and a combination of knot patterns. 

These ideas and techniques inform Rachel’s work with found plant materials where she uses their components to determine what is made. The repeated nature of this work offers what she describes as the ‘movements in patterns’.

Note: This workshop will be led by Rachel between 10.30 - 12.30 pm. Materials and instructions will be available throughout the day so that people can keep adding to the structure.

A two hour artist statement writing workshop with artist, researcher and educator Elly Clarke. Through collective and independent writing exercises and conversation, we will unlock creative approaches to writing about your work - for applications, websites, proposals and grant applications, and also as a means of exploring and (re)encountering your own working processes from new perspectives.

The workshop is collaborative and participatory, with all attendees strongly encouraged to join in with the collective editing of others' work. Because of this, some time is taken at the beginning of the session to ensure everyone feels as safe as possible, so that the deep, intimate work of writing about art can take place.

Bring a 250-300 word artist statement you already have, to work on. Sharing your statement with the group is encouraged, but not compulsory!

This workshop is suitable for artists at all stages of their career and for the time being I plan to run this workshop every couple of months. The exercises will be similar but not the same so suitable for returning participants.

About Elly Clarke

I am an artist, performer, PhD researcher and educator who has been helping artists write about their work for more than four years. This has been mostly through my teaching on the MFA Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London. I have also run workshops for other institutions, including Studio Voltaire; Axisweb; Pratt Institute in New York; The British Council, Spill Festival, and The Place, London. My collaborative writing techniques draw on my drag performance practice alongside a deep engagement with pedagogy and collective forms of learning and thinking together.

Rachel Attfield will be hosting Silent walk as part of the ReRooted Residency Programme in Trowbridge Gardens.

This walk is reflective of Rachel’s way of working, where taking time to be in the moment has increased awareness and connections with nature in urban surroundings. Before beginning the walk, we will do some simple movements together to focus the mind. The meditative nature of the walk can allow the business of our lives and surroundings to become quieter and offer time to notice. 

Please note there will be a short walk to the beginning of the silent walk which may involve crossing some busy roads. Please wear clothing appropriate for the weather and walking on uneven surfaces. 

The walk, led by Rachel Attfield reflects her practice as a craft artist and her career as a dance artist, choreographer and movement specialist. Her work explores movement found in ordinary everyday activity, particularly crafts and how these movements connect memories of past experiences and people.

Do you want to get more and better clients or sell to galleries or shops? Do you want to get more online sales, commissions or retail orders or work with galleries? Does your website need a bit of TLC?

In this workshop we will focus on practical marketing and improving your website. We’ll start with the importance of having a niche and what you want to be known for. Before looking at identifying who your ideal clients are, and how to identify and approach them. The difference between selling to individuals and trade clients. And what specific marketing activities to do if you want to get online sales, sales from events, commissions & higher end sales, or wholesale orders.

The final part of this workshop will be looking at your website and branding (incl. photography), and what you can improve to get more visitors and sales.

This will be a very visual workshop with loads of examples of other creative soletrader to inspire you to improve your marketing, website & branding too.

This talk unpicks the underlying ancient understandings which have constructed our ideas of civilisation. We start with the view that the space inhabited by people is rooted in these ideas of civilisation and still shapes our culture, society and relationship with nature. Ray will share some of the ways in which these deep-seated concepts, reflected in everyday signs and symbols, are a source for much of his work and a critique of the human relationship with nature.

Ray is an architect and musician, and some years ago directed the Urban Architecture Research Unit at Uni of North London (now London Metropolitan University). He now focuses on what he calls ‘making objects with meaning’.

This exhibition brings awareness to the impact that serious youth violence has on the local communities in Hackney Wick and Homerton.

Join us for the opening event Next Friday on the 12th of April from 5 - 8PM.

Reflect on stories of young lives lost to crime in Hackney Wick/Homerton since 2014. Contribute to the exhibition by adding messages to condolence book or street memorial, or sharing thoughts on serious youth violence in 'feelings box'.

Yolanda Chappell will be hosting an Adult's Art Workshop: Watercolour Trees and Mindfulness Activities at Arbeit Studios - Palmers Green.
